Derek Kochi

With over 27 years of experience in construction, project management, development, and architecture, Derek Kochi has been a trusted leader in Hawaii’s construction industry. He brings comprehensive expertise across the full project lifecycle, with a proven ability to translate complex design concepts into buildable solutions while ensuring compliance with building codes, regulatory requirements, and sustainability standards. Derek successfully managed high-profile projects valued at over $300 million, leading large cross-disciplinary teams and delivering results that aligned with both client objectives and community needs.

Prior to joining Dowling Company, Derek worked with Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company for 14 years, most recently serving as a Senior Project Manager. In that role, he oversaw some of Honolulu’s most notable developments, including Ulana Ward Village, The Central Ala Moana, and the LEED Gold-certified Hawaiian Dredging Corporate Office. His leadership was defined by technical rigor, a commitment to sustainability, and disciplined project management practices. Derek’s expertise consistently ensured that projects were completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards—helping to strengthen the built environment across Hawaii.

Outside of work, Derek enjoys playing golf, cheering on his oldest daughter as she plays softball for the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and supporting his youngest daughter in her cheerleading pursuits—both on the sidelines and at competitions. Born and raised on Maui, Derek is grateful to be contributing to Lahaina’s post wildfire recovery..
